Leech Irish Family Gifts & Heritage

Leech is an occupational surname from the Middle English word leche, meaning a physician or healer — the same word that gave the medicinal leech its name, from the practice of bloodletting. A family bearing the name descended from an ancestor who was a doctor or man of medicine; the name came to Ireland with English settlers and became established mainly in the eastern and midland counties.

Its Irish history is best described accurately: a long-established Irish family connection does not by itself make the surname a native Gaelic sept. County and parish records help identify a particular line.

The Leech collection currently includes mug, woven blanket, T-shirt, novelty license plate, coaster set, garden flag, and ceramic ornament.
