Where does the Carron name come from?
In an Irish context, Carron can be a shortened form of McCarron. John Grenham’s surname dictionary distinguishes Mac Cearáin in Ulster, probably a form of Mac Ciaráin, from Mac Carrghamhna in the Midlands. The Donegal and Westmeath histories are separate regional traditions. Carron also has Scottish locational and continental origins, which should be distinguished from this Irish usage.
