The Story Behind the Design
The Armstrong tartan and clan crest printed across a lightweight throw — the one that lives on the back of the sofa and gets pulled over you on an ordinary evening. The motto sits at the centre: Invictus Maneo — "I Remain Unvanquished."
No clan has carried its name further. When Neil Armstrong stepped onto the moon in 1969, the old Border name went with him — and it's said a swatch of Armstrong tartan made the trip too. Three years later the town of Langholm, in the clan's old country, made him its first and only Freeman, and he told the crowd he considered it his home town. From the Debatable Lands to the Sea of Tranquility: not bad for one family.
