The Betham Name in Ireland

The name is an English place-name — Beetham in Westmorland — and in Ireland it belongs above all to one man: Sir William Betham, Ulster King of Arms, who spent decades abstracting Ireland's prerogative wills. When the Four Courts blaze of 1922 destroyed the originals, his notebooks became the backbone of early Irish family research, and every genealogist tracing an Irish line before 1800 still walks through his handwriting.
