The Bindon Name in Ireland

The name carries a Dorset abbey to the banks of the Fergus: the family settled in Clare in the seventeenth century, seated at Clooney, and sat repeatedly for Ennis in Parliament — Bindon Street in that town remembers them. The name's most gifted bearer was Francis Bindon, the painter and architect who took Jonathan Swift's portrait and designed some of Ireland's great Palladian houses. The name remains scarce, and mostly Clare's.
