The Boyds were once trusted with the whole kingdom. In the 1460s Lord Boyd of Kilmarnock became a regent for the boy-king James III, his brother the king's tutor, and his son married the king's sister and was made Earl of Arran — the family briefly steering Scotland itself. Reputation as the "Trusty Boyds" outlasted even their fall from power. A quiet evening under a warm blanket is a calmer kind of trust.
