The Brophy Name in Ireland

The Irish is Ó Bróithe, and the name belongs to the old territory of Upper Ossory in what is now Laois, spilling over into neighbouring Kilkenny. Centuries of upheaval moved most Irish families somewhere; the Brophys stayed largely put, and the name is still concentrated in those two counties, with very little presence elsewhere in Ireland.
