The Comerford Name in Ireland

Comerford is an Old English name, settled in Kilkenny and Waterford since the Middle Ages and written deep into the civic life of Kilkenny city, where the family held office generation after generation. Their tower house at Ballybur, raised in the late sixteenth century a few miles from the city, still stands today. Patrick Comerford, born in Waterford, served as Bishop of Waterford and Lismore through the upheavals of the seventeenth century.
