The Story Behind the Design

A Belfast merchant named John Corry bought Castle Coole in the 1650s, and Fermanagh has known the name since. This premium heritage woven blanket honors the Corry family crest against the Irish National Tartan.

The Corry Name in Ireland

In Ulster the name is usually Scottish, from Corrie in Dumfriesshire, carried over in the seventeenth-century settlement. John Corry, a merchant of Scottish stock, bought the Castle Coole estate in Fermanagh in 1656, and his descendants — the Lowry-Corrys, earls of Belmore — kept the name at the center of that county's story. Elsewhere Corry can stand for the Gaelic Ó Comhraí, more often written Curry, a separate and older Irish line.
