The Story Behind the Design

The Cusacks came over with the Normans and have been Meath people for eight centuries since. This premium heritage woven blanket honors the Cusack family crest against the Irish National Tartan.

The Cusack Name in Ireland

The name is Norman, from Cussac in the south of France, and it arrived in Ireland with the invasion of the twelfth century. The family settled in Meath and became one of the leading names of the Pale, holding land and office there through the medieval centuries. In Irish the name became de Cíosóg — a Norman name in Gaelic dress, which is the mark of the families who stayed. Its best-known modern bearer, Michael Cusack, founded the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1884.
