The Story Behind the Design
The Johnstone tartan and clan crest printed across a lightweight throw — the one that lives on the back of the sofa and gets pulled over you on an ordinary evening. The motto sits at the centre: Nunquam Non Paratus, "Never Unprepared."
The Johnstones earned that motto the hard way. At the Battle of Dryfe Sands near Lockerbie in 1593, they shattered their great rivals the Maxwells so completely that the name of the town entered the language — to be "Lockerbie'd" meant to be cut down in a rout. A quieter evening under a warm blanket is a gentler way to remember the name.
