At a time when Catholic education was illegal, Nano Nagle established secret schools across Cork city, bringing education to thousands of children who would otherwise have had none. Her work, carried on by the order she founded, spread across Ireland and to every continent where Irish missionaries served. She was beatified by Pope Francis in 2020.
