The Story Behind the Design
The Reynolds name arrived in Ireland with the Normans but quickly put down Gaelic roots — becoming, in Connacht, one of the great names of the old Irish west. This woven blanket honours that layered heritage through the Reynolds family crest and the warm tones of the Irish National Tartan.
The Reynolds Name
Mac Raghnaill in Irish — son of Raghnall, a Scandinavian name meaning wise ruler — the Reynolds family were a Norman-Irish sept who Gaelicised deeply in County Leitrim and County Roscommon. Mac Raghnaill became Reynolds through anglicisation, the name settling into the Connacht landscape as completely as any Gaelic surname. The family held territory in Muintir Eolais in County Leitrim, one of the divisions of the ancient kingdom of Breifne, and appear in the annals as lords of that territory through the medieval period. Like many Norman-Irish families, the Reynolds became indistinguishable from the native Irish over generations, their identity and their land inseparable from Connacht’s Gaelic tradition.
Woven Craftsmanship
Not printed — woven. The Reynolds crest and Irish tartan design are integral to the textile itself, formed thread by thread on a loom. Premium cotton yarn and traditional fringed edges give the piece its weight, texture, and lasting quality.
