The Story Behind the Design
The Segrave name carries one of the most distinguished Norman-Irish heritages in Leinster — a family that arrived with Strongbow and remained, becoming one of the great names of County Meath and County Dublin across eight centuries. This woven blanket honours that lineage through the Segrave family crest and the Irish National Tartan.
The Segrave Name
De Segrave in its original form — from Seagrave in Leicestershire, England — the Segrave family came to Ireland with the Anglo-Norman settlement of the late twelfth century. They received lands in County Dublin and County Meath, where they became one of the significant families of the medieval Pale. The Segraves produced several Justiciars of Ireland — the senior royal officials of medieval Ireland — and their name appears consistently in the records of the Irish administration from the thirteenth century onward. Like many Pale families, the Segraves maintained their Catholic faith through the Reformation and became part of the Old English gentry community that straddled the worlds of Irish and English identity. The name endures today as a mark of one of the oldest continuous Norman-Irish presences in Leinster.
Woven Craftsmanship
Not printed — woven. The Segrave crest and tartan design are integral to the textile itself, built into every thread on a loom. Premium cotton yarn and traditional fringed edges complete the heirloom-quality finish.
