About Gallagher & O’Gallagher Irish Family Heritage Gifts

Gallagher and O’Gallagher come from the Irish Ó Gallchobhair, “descendant of Gallchobhar,” a personal name glossed as “foreign help.” The family drew its descent from Maolchobha, a seventh-century King of Ireland, and grew into one of the most numerous and powerful families of Tír Chonaill, the territory of modern County Donegal.

From the fourteenth century the O’Gallaghers served as marshals of the O’Donnell forces, leading the fighting men of Cenél Conaill through the great campaigns of the north. The name also filled the sees of Raphoe and Derry: James Gallagher became bishop of Raphoe in 1725, published his Sixteen Irish Sermons in 1736 and was later translated to Kildare.

The Gallagher range suits home and holiday alike. The woven blanket and garden flag carry the O’Gallagher name, while the printed throw, accent mug and framed Christmas ornament bear Gallagher on the Irish National Tartan. A wall pennant and a Celtic harp T-shirt round out the choice.
