The Story Behind the Design

Carbery was a prince, then a place, then a family. This premium heritage woven blanket honors the Carbery family crest against the Irish National Tartan.

The Carbery Name in Ireland

The root is Cairbre, one of early Ireland's favorite princely first names — legend gives Cormac mac Airt a son called Cairbre — and it marked the map long before it marked families: the baronies of Carbery in Cork and Carbury in Kildare both preserve it. As a surname, Ó Cairbre settled chiefly through the midlands, never numerous, always traceable, with Carbury as its common twin spelling in the registers.
