The Chinnery Name in Ireland

The name is English, settled in County Cork by the seventeenth century, where the family rose to a baronetcy at Flintfield and a steady place among the county's gentry. The name's widest fame came through art: George Chinnery trained his hand in Dublin in the 1790s before becoming the most celebrated European painter on the China coast, working in India and Macau, where he died in 1852. In Ireland the name has always been scarce, and a Chinnery in the records nearly always leads back to Cork.
