Clarke is what Ó Cléirigh became when it was translated instead of respelled. This premium heritage woven blanket honors the Clarke family crest against the Irish National Tartan.

The Clarke Name in Ireland

The root is Ó Cléirigh, the clerk's name, and where other branches became Cleary, whole districts rendered it straight into English as Clarke — nowhere more thoroughly than in Cavan and the old territory of Breffny, where Clarke remains one of the commonest surnames to this day. English settler Clarkes joined the same spelling from the other direction. The name's place in modern Irish history is fixed: Thomas Clarke's signature stands first on the Proclamation of 1916.
